“When I photographed him in the summer, I felt it was important to capture him with the elements he has devoted much of his life to. The garden, the music, and the outdoors. I have rarely made a portrait that asked so little of its subject and revealed so much.”The Work
Thank you for stopping by. I'm Joseph Daniel, and for almost five decades I've spent my life behind a camera, making portraits of the people, places, and quiet moments that caught my eye. This site is a home for that work.
Here you'll find a gallery of selected portraits, the stories behind the sittings, a look back at a life in pictures, and news from the archive as new prints and rediscovered negatives come to light. Take your time, look around, and if something speaks to you, I'd love to hear from you.
